Actor Testimonials

Out of the 5 children's theatre companies I have worked for, NTC is by far the best at presenting educational theatre that is enjoyable for both students & teachers alike! NTC is extremely organized & professional and I never felt disrespected or undervalued for the work us actors do.
    — Katherine Yacko , 2016
Doing children's theatre will teach you to trust yourself and your tour partner. It'll teach you to think on your feet and to overcome obstacles. NTC is awesome at equipping you with the tools needed to flourish.
    — Preston Williams , 2016
Inspiring kids through education is one of the most rewarding experiences, and everyone should feel that at least once in their life.
    — Addie Wilson , 2016
Great way to travel the country, while performing shows for kids that have a positive message that matters!
    — Tiffany Renee Bear , 2016
The National Theatre for Children hired me to go into schools and teach kids about energy and conservation. Little did I know that I'D be the one learning in the process- about staying on my toes, connecting with different school communities, and figuring out how to best perform the message. It's a job that reminds you every day about how MUCH it matters via giggles and shouts from students. And that's a gift.
    — Claire Hilton , 2016
My experience with NTC was hugely positive! Our fellow actor's, staff and directors are all so supportive, gracious and kind! The rehearsal process was extremely fun, the tour was great, and the opportunity NTC creates to explore new places is unique and exciting! Combining the magic of theatre, the spirit of adventure and some really great people, NTC is really something special!
    — Matt Pablo , 2015
NTC is an amazing company. They are invested in not only performing for young audiences but teaching them valuable lessons and providing them with resources to act on what they've learned. I don't know of any other company who is this adept at connecting with young audiences. They are incredible well-organized, everyone has a positive attitude, and they are so much fun to work for!
    — Jennifer Allman , 2015
NTC has helped me not only as an actor but as a person. If you can be flexible and solve problems life becomes so much easier!
    — Robert Stetson , 2015
NTC allowed me to feel part of a team. They were opened to my creative input. Directors come in wanting to explore new possibilities in the script.
    — Jason Morgan , 2015
Working for NTC has been a blast. I got to travel, eat good food, make children smile, and be silly all the while. Performing upwards of 15 times a week really allows you to discover new ideas and character elements as you go, which was exciting to me as an actor. Also, did I mention the travel and food?
    — Dan Banks , 2015
I love working for NTC because I actually have an early childhood education degree, but I have a passion for theatre, and this is the way I prefer to educate children.
    — Jackie Luthy , 2015
This is the most fun I've ever had at a job - doing the same show over and over again gave me a chance to settle in to a script and find ways to improvise within limits. I feel like I stretched acting muscles I didn't know I had!!
    — Katherine Canipe , 2015
Working for The National Theatre for Children allowed me the chance to introduce theatre to kids all over the country. It combined teaching and entertaining. If you want to know what happy sounds like, it's an auditorium full of 500 children laughing and learning.
    — Jason Morgan , 2014
If you enjoy getting to see our great land and inspire the life's of thousands in the process there is no better experience than with NTC
    — Beau Wilson , 2014
Working for NTC was a safe haven as far as indulging my creativity as an artist. Playing multiple characters allowed me to get outside of my comfort zone in all performance aspects. Doing theatre for children had allowed me to make big bold choices which has had a positive impact on my auditions and other work.
    — Rob Stetson , 2014
At NTC, I enjoyed the most collaborative and creative process I have experienced since college, and I got paid for it! My tour partner and I took our show and ran with it and the end result was something completely our own. And the best part is we were able to make thousands of kids smile by doing what we love to do! They call this a job?!?!
    — Meredith Gratton , 2014
Working for NTC has been a blast. I got to travel, eat good food, make children smile, and be silly all the while. Performing upwards of 15 times a week really allows you to discover new ideas and character elements as you go, which was exciting to me as an actor. Also, did I mention the travel and food?
    — Dan Banks , 2014
NTC treats their actors better than many other companies I have worked for. The positive energy they give off the moment you arrive just makes you want to do a better job, so you feel like you deserve that kind of care.
    — Timothy Leonard , 2014
I've worked for and strongly considered working for many other children's theater companies but The National Theatre for Children has been my favorite experience by far. If you consider yourself a actor, first pick NTC. In working for other companies I had fun and they were good experiences too but I always felt like more of a educator than an actor. With the National Theatre for Children I get to use my skills as a artist to educate kids about topics that are worthwhile. Plus it is really fun you get paid enough to do theater full time for a good chunk of time you are getting to travel and the best thing is that the kids love the shows. Truthfully those kids will laugh at your jokes like the show is the funniest thing they have ever seen in their lives. They will laugh so hard and become so invested in the show that they can hardly contain themselves. Those kids will be the most honest crowd you have ever performed for and it is going to make you such a stronger performer because you have to be so clear and specific for the jokes to play to a room full of elementary school students. Performing National Theater for Children shows will challenge you as an actor and force you to be able to adapt on the fly. If you are lucky enough to get offered a tour: take it.
    — Alyssa Perau , 2013
My experience with NTC was very memorable it really helped me dabble more with improv and kept me on my feet.
    — Alex Ghattas , 2013
NTC has created something really tremendous; a very small very simple show that fits in three bags and educates kids through comedy and the dramatic arts. I had so much fun on this tour as did the kids and I think the teachers had some fun too!
    — Michael Soldati , 2013
Working with NTC is always a great way to get out and see something new every day.
    — Nate Betancourt , 2013
I had never worked for a Children's Theatre in this kind of capacity before NTC, but going on tour and being responsible for every aspect of the show really teaches you how to problem solve and make decisions; quickly. Whether it's the space that's a challenge or the kids being rambunctious, you figure out how to make the show go on...even if you're already in the middle of it!
    — Casey Weems , 2012
With NTC I had the opportunity to act, teach, positively influence children, and make kids smile and laugh. The joy you bring to these kids will make your day.
    — Christopher Henriquez , 2012
The National Theatre for Children has given me the confidence and freedom to make my own actor choices and improve on my improvisation skills! Performing in front of a room full of children can be somewhat intimidating, but after this experience, I feel prepared for performing live in any atmosphere!
    — Laura Henriquez , 2012
I had a great experience working with NTC. It's nice to be paid a living wage as an actor, and still have free time for other projects. I did this during the day, and produced and acted in a play at night on the weekends. It was a fantastic balance of creativity, paid work, and making a difference in the kid's lives. I loved watching their bright eyes as many experienced a live performance for the first time.
    — Wendi West , 2012
Before going on tour with NTC, I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I didn't realize quite how much. I love the experience of traveling to a new school and performing for a new group of children - a lot of whom are seeing theatre for the first time! And the children are the best audience; they think we're super stars:) You couldn't ask for a better support team while on the road. If you get a chance, work for NTC - I guarantee it will be life-changing:)
    — Travis Kendrick , 2012
Top to bottom, working for NTC was a very rewarding experience. Any actor who wants to build his resume, see the country, and have a blast should check out NTC!
    — Gretchen Grunkze , 2012
It's an ideal job. Freedom steady work good people good bosses good times! I love you guys!
    — Tony Czech , 2011
NTC is an all-around great organization to work for. Everyone is very professional and it's run like a well-oiled machine. It's always a pleasure to come back.
    — Andy Brown , 2011
What a privilege it was working for NTC; not only do you get to hone your skills at comedy but also you are rewarded with making an impact on the world with a great message while making the students' day.
    — Kristen Spangenberg , 2011
Touring with NTC was amazing! Seeing the kids really interested and entertained by the message of the show makes the whole experience worthwhile.
    — Corey Cochran , 2010
This is the most fun I've ever had at a job - doing the same show over and over again gave me a chance to settle in to a script and find ways to improvise within limits. I feel like I stretched acting muscles I didn't know I had!!
    — Katherine (Kat) Canipe , 2010
I get paid to be a superhero, see the country, and educate children at the same time. What could be better?
    — Rhianna Smith , 2010
When you forget that the work you're doing is in fact "work", then that speaks volumes about the company you're working for. With NTC, I've never once felt like a disposable actor that is out of sight/out of mind while I was out on the road. After two tours with NTC, I feel more confident and capable as a performer than I've ever felt since entering the job market. Best of all, it's refreshing and comforting to know that NTC genuinely cares about and remembers the actors representing them all over the country. I sincerely cannot wait to come back!
    — Matthew Ancarrow , 2010
I thoroughly enjoy my job! I get to inspire kids to love theatre and educate them, while having a fun time playing and seeing the country!
    — Russell Daniels , 2010
Working for the National Theatre for Children is an amazing experience, especially when you get to tour to areas where students may never have seen live theatre before. It is so wonderful to think that you can be the representation of live theatre to these children and expose them to something new and different, all while teaching them important lessons and entertaining them.
    — James Wencel , 2009
Even though you are on the road for several weeks doing the same show several times a day every school day, it never gets boring. With each audience you have, you get a different show. Their reactions helps you tell the show and take them on a journey.
    — Vanessa Miller , 2009
NTC is a professional, conscientious company dedicated to providing a quality educational experience for children. As an NTC actor you not only have an opportunity to contribute to this goal but to travel the country, make new friends and professional connections and inspire a whole new generation to appreciate live theater. Yay future ticket buyers!
    — Elin Hawkinson , 2009
Working for NTC I felt fulfilled as an actor with the work I was doing and respected by everyone I worked with.
    — Courtney Grile , 2009
My time with NTC is some of the most valued in my career. Not only did I get to earn my living doing what I love I got to travel and make great friends.
    — G. Scott Mowery , 2009
Working for the National Theatre for Children is an experience that every person who calls him or herself an actor should strive to experience at some point in his or her career. You not only learn to really polish your acting chops by doing the same show over 100 times and keeping it just as energetic and fresh each time, but you also meet some excellent colleagues who are bound to become lifelong friends, see parts of the country that you may have have had the opportunity to see, and have the chance to influence children for the rest of their lives. Performing for children is one of the most rewarding experiences for an actor (I think), because not only are they the most honest critics you will probably ever encounter, but also, they are at an age where their minds are so eager to learn and grow, that the work you do for them has the potential to have a lasting impression on them, and quite possibly inspire them to do the same thing one day.
    — Andy Crosten , 2009
Quote???? I came to NTC to be a Professional Actor... That is exactly what I am doing.
    — Matthew Berdahl , 2009
Some of these schools don't get many opportunities to have programs like this, and it's a great feeling as an actor to be a part of that experience. Seeing the kids have fun makes you have *more* fun.
    — Koya Frye , 2009
The National Theatre for Children is a great company to work for! All the staff and employees were professional and friendly and I felt like I had nothing to worry about because they had it all under control, even from thousands of miles away! They work one on one with you to create a show that's going to be entertaining and as well as educational; a show you can feel good about. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
    — Maria Stuckey , 2008
It's always great to get paid to act and travel at the same time. It's also nice to know that the shows on tour are actually doing something more than entertaining an audience - the shows also help kids have fun while learning something!
    — Frank Sjodin , 2008
NTC gives the opportunity for real professional actors to go into schools and give kids sometimes their first taste of live theatre. There couldn't be a better feeling than knowing that on a day to day basis I get to enrich the lives of these students and make a living doing so.
    — Andrew Cotlar , 2008
what a great way to see the country, make a difference,be an artist, and save money!
    — Irene ErkenBrack , 2008
The National Theatre for Children is an amazing company to work for. They really know how to balance a fun and professional working environment.
    — Katrina Kmak , 2008
This is unlike any job you will ever have. You laugh, you play, you smile, and you are greeted with laughs, hugs and cheers on a daily basis.
    — Lacey Piotter , 2008
Performing for NTC is like a working holiday. You do your show and the rest of the day is yours to explore whatever city you're in.
    — Colin Waitt , 2008
You can't beat going to work every day and having hundreds of kids cracking up and going nuts for you. It makes it even sweeter when the teachers do the same. NTC was really supportive on the road, and that made the entire trip a breeze.
    — Brady Blevins , 2008
As an actor to have the ability to touch the lives of children is incredible. Some of these children have never seen theater in their lives and exposing them to the arts, in an educational atmosphere, is what keeps me coming back to NTC!
    — Bryan Thomas , 2008
Being an NTC actor is more than just being a traveling thespian. You are given the creative leeway to invent fun characters, the opportunity to educate while entertaining kids and the rare chance to explore the vastness of America. There are few jobs in life as rewarding as an NTC tour.
    — Josh Hyman , 2007
I've worked for three different touring companies and the NTC was the only one where I felt the home office truly cared about the employees experience along with the quality of work.
    — Perry Thrun , 2007
NTC is the best! They go out of their way to make sure you have a fun and enjoyable tour. This tour helped me to hone my improv skills.

I would highly recommend working for the NTC. Not only is it a fun gig and pays well, but the office staff really knows how to take care of their actors. They make you feel both at home and appreciated. Overall, it's a very professional and positive environiment to work in -

The National Theatre for Children has an awesome, caring and fun staff that makes touring a lot easier, safer and enjoyable. I've learned how to be even more comfortable with making bold choices and how to play to your audience.

The positive people at NTC created an ideal work environment, allowing me to feel comfortable and right at home during the orientation and rehearsal process. As an actor, I appreciated the artistic freedom we were given and the encouragement to develop well-rounded, comic characters for children's theatre.

As an actor, finding work that you not only like doing but serves a greater purpose like exposing children to theatre for the first time is such a thrill. NTC does that in a great and unique way. I have loved this experience and can't wait to do this again.

NTC allowed me to get out and see some of the country I've never seen before. Introduced me to a great group of people and helped me gain confidence in my social and acting abilities.
